so we got corperate fedi on threads, actual fedi on here, fedi on a potato and everything else as a plugin. do we need more server software?

@koyu@kopimi.space more server software means better diversity for the fedi ecosystem.

It'd be sad to see fedi end up in a similar situation to browsers

@julia yes, but like the use-case is like pretty much the same between some softwares and some are just political forks without anything meaningful added to it

@koyu@kopimi.space that's fair. I'd like to see more from-scratch implementations like gotosocial and wafrn

@julia @koyu it would be better if the popular ones all didnt cover the same two niches of social networking

@noob@soc.noob.quest @koyu@kopimi.space and what of akkoma or pleroma? those don't feel at all like twitter, at least to me.

@noob @julia yeah that's the point i'm trying to make. just let people have a website and then let them make it activitypub compatible and they'd have to figure out the interface where they post from and how posts are getting displayed. if everything is already set in stone there's barely any flexibility. social media to its core is literally just another way to view information on the internet.

@noob @julia oh and that's also a reason why i'm a huge sucker for gemini, because people can choose the format and clients to display information. everything else is up to the implementation.

@noob @julia same, i mean the developer was even an ex-vk dev, so it surely does look a lot like retro vk/vkontakte.
