@dangerdyke @winter These guys baffle me so much because they are very clearly engaged politically, but they seem to beโ€ฆ Hyper-partisan? Thatโ€™s the best way I can put it. Not in the sense that theyโ€™re anti-conservative, but in the sense that anything EXCEPT virulent liberalism is bad.

@yassie_j @winter i think its born of like, the ability to see trumism/the more overt strains of modern fascism as bad but the inability to accept that the US state and the democratic party are largely complicit in causing that to arise

@winter the freedom isnโ€™t free line makes me think theyโ€™re just in favor of whoever is more powerful maybe?

ukraine, with the backing of the US has been shown to be very capable of winning against russia, so maybe itโ€™s just power pol? idfk people are strange

I mean, like from the dictionary definition, is it really?
With something like the NSA you could loosely say that a form of political police secretly supervise the public, I guess, but at that point wouldn't all states count as police states? Plus I wouldn't consider the U.S. to be totalitarian.

@FawnOverFun @winter
Like, I'm pretty sure most states keep tabs on their citizens, the distinction from what I'm reading depends on the freedoms of their citizens (mostly, you know, freedom of speech), the existence of a secret police, and the executive branch having bilateral power.

Like, fuck the U.S, don't get me wrong, but is the Biden presidency, liberal and genocide enabling as it is, really on the level of Pinochet, Hitler, or Batista?

@AppleAmps @FawnOverFun if the idea of the state secretly supervising the public at all times would have been unquestionably called a police state not that many decades ago, and if we have already gone beyond some dystopian novels' ideas of the worst case scenario in some ways, why should we move the goalposts then of what is and isn't a police state just to exclude the US?
