yeah, I see how Bluesky is not like Mastodon.

At least for Mastodon I don't need to ask Eugen about being able to federate with other instances.

@noob I mean, yeah...but "in the future" can be as far off as they want to be.

And the current state is...hilarious.

*chefs kiss* loving this "federation" they have going on.

@pixel i do trust bluesky more than threads and i think people are exaggerating how corporate it is but who knows

@noob @pixel I mean they are controlled by a Corporation, they have to extract profit from users to not die, I don't know how you get less corporate than being a corporation

@luna @noob also they are VC funded, which adds even more to that

the investors will want their money back at some point

@luna @pixel i don’t really mean specifically the company and the app but more of the protocol and the fact that they’re trying to standardize it with the IETF, yea it’s still a company but it’s a bit less corporate than usual

@pixel @noob To be fair, everything over there is still a work in progress... It's still considered beta software in heavy development. But... Yeah. It's kind of ridiculous they haven't completed their main feature set before charging into opening up federation.

@pixel @luna @noob

can highly recommend to take a look at @dat_ecosystem
if people arent happy with the mastodon tech and point at the clearly worse blsky, then they should honestly also share how we can just go all the way and embrace dat p2p

no need for any self hosting, no servers and no clouds anymore ...and easy as pie on top of all of that 😉

these are exciting times, but at the end of it, there can only be the internet of peers. no more digital landlords.

@pixel
Telegram was once open source in the future: https://web.archive.org/web/20141129141132/https://telegram.org/faq#q-why-not-open-source-everything
> All code will be released eventually.

Then they decided they will not open the source code of the server and keep Telegraph, Instant View and bot infrastructure proprietary once a lot of people have invested their effort building Telegram closed platform for free.
